Passion and innovative solutions for the textile machinery sector
1950s
Those were the fifties, when a 12 year-old-boy sneaked into an acquaintance’s workshop during the hour break to “play” with the lathe. During working hour he used to observe and memorize the artisan’s gestures and actions to secretly try them when the little workshop was empty. One day the owner surprised him and, instead of kicking him out, he decided to pick him as a labourer. That boy was Umberto Virano; at the age of 14 he was already struggling with metal spinning and he hasn’t stopped since then.
1967
In 1967 he opened his own business proposing metal spinning manufacturing of shapes and accessories for different uses. Subsequently he approached the textile world, obtaining important orders for the realization of sliver cans components.
Know how
In this area he has studied and developed his own personal compression spring manufacturing, which keeps in balance the base of the can without any support or tie bar, allowing its sliding without compromising the collected bundle of filament.
Today
To date the production of different sizes of springs and other components for sliver cans represent 80% of the turnover of Metal Lastra, that stands as a leader in this type of component for the spinning industry.
